Ontario Doubling rush-hour GO Service to Hamilton’s West Harbour Station

HAMILTON – Today, Kinga Surma, Associate Minister of Transportation (GTA), joined Donna Skelly, MPP for Flamborough-Glanbrook, and Phil Verster, President and CEO of Metrolinx, to announce the government’s plans to continue to improve transportation across the province.

The Ontario government is adding 19 new GO train trips and extending 25 existing GO train trips each week on the Lakeshore West line. This will double rush-hour train service to West Harbour GO, improve rush-hour service for customers in Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga, and make weekend train service to Niagara Falls and St. Catharines a year-round offering.

“We’re delivering on our promise to expand transit in Ontario by offering more service, more trains and more choice for GO customers on the Lakeshore West line,” said Associate Minister Surma. “Introducing year-round weekend service to Niagara Falls and St. Catharines is an important milestone for our GO Rail Expansion program, which will extend regional rapid transit options to throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe.”

“Doubling train service to Hamilton during rush hour is going to make a real difference for people who depend on GO to commute for work and school,” said MPP Skelly. “Along with year-round weekend service to Niagara Region, these increases will give customers more choice when planning their commutes.”

“All of these new and improved trips are giving people more reasons to choose transit first, which is what our GO Rail Expansion program is all about,” said Phil Verster. “The trips we’re bringing to West Harbour GO are not just doubling rush-hour service—they’re giving customers travel options at very convenient times to make it much easier to take the GO train into and out of Toronto, and all points in between.”

Quick Facts

  • Starting September 3, 2019, there will be double the amount of weekday train service to and from West Harbour GO. The existing 7:23 a.m. and 8:03 a.m. trips that currently start at Aldershot GO will now originate at West Harbour GO at 7:09 a.m. and 7:49 a.m. In the evening, a new 4:45 p.m. trip from Union Station will run express to Clarkson GO before serving all stops to West Harbour GO, and the existing 6:30 p.m. trip from Union Station that currently stops at Aldershot GO will be extended to serve West Harbour GO.
  • Weekend GO train service to Niagara Falls and St. Catharines will now run year-round, bringing GO train service to Niagara Falls and St. Catharines seven days a week, 365 days a year. Making these fourteen weekend train trips permanent also means more weekend service for GO customers at Burlington, Oakville, Port Credit and Exhibition GO stations, where the trains currently stop.
  • The 3:15 p.m., which will now leave at 3:13 p.m., and 6:15 p.m. weekday trips from Union Station will be extended to Aldershot GO.
